Massage therapy is the systematic and
scientific manipulation of the body’s soft tissues to produce
therapeutic effects in muscular, circulatory and nervous systems.
Therapeutic massage is a useful and integral part of the healing
process.
Massage is the oldest medicine known to
humanity. The Egyptians had a twelve energy massage system, the bible
speaks of the "laying on of hands", the ancient Chinese
practiced acupressure, the Native American medicine people practiced
massage to calm or energize organ function in the body. Aeuverdic
medicine asks us to perform a full body self-massage every day. Modern
massage combines ancient knowledge with the modern sciences of anatomy,
physiology,kinesiology and pathology.
Types of Massage
Swedish massage is the most common western style of massage.
Basic strokes are used with oil on skin in combination, to manipulate
soft tissue.
Deep tissue massage is a deeper
massage working more on the inner structure of the muscle and its
attachments. This is very useful in the rehabilitation of muscle strains
and tears.
Myofascial release works to break
up tensions in the external structures around and between connective
tissue. myofascial releases are often prescribed by doctors or physical
therapists after injuries.
Injury evaluation and rehabilitation helps
locate the exact site and extent of the injury and specifically works to
rebuild the injured area or structure.
Neuromuscular therapy or reeducation assists
in allowing muscles and their nervous connections to work more freely
and efficiently creating more range of motion and freer movement. Using
stretches and assisted exercise helps in creating better use of your
body.
Chinese acupressure employs the
five element meridian theory of body energy, using finger pressure to
energize organ or muscle function. Balancing body systems and reviving
the Chi (Ki) are both very important. The arts of Jin Shin Do and T’ui-na
are used to accomplish these tasks.
Sports massage is designed for
more specific use with athletes to improve performance, decrease
recovery time, and assist in warm up and cool down. The needs of
athletes are very specific and are addressed in this special application
of massage and assisted stretching.
Each massage is designed
for the individual client’s needs and wants.
