   Self-Regulation Skills Group

Mind-body medicine focuses on the powerful ways in which the mental, emotional, social and spiritual factors interplay and directly affect health. In the Self-Regulation Skills Groups, each person’s capacity for self-care and self-knowledge are respected and enhanced. Techniques are grounded in this approach and include practice in self-awareness, relaxation, music therapy, exercise, biofeedback, guided meditation, visualization, nutrition, and group support.

Careful selection of participants allows the structure to provide an optimal amount of practice for each individual in the group. Participants increase self-awareness and enhance their well-being by practicing carefully designed skills. If in-depth therapy is wanted, the participant will receive a referral for additional work outside the group.

The Healing Arts Center includes groups for people with a variety of concerns, including life-threatening or chronic illnesses, as well as groups for those who are wanting stress reduction and optimal health.

The Center is available to community organizations to integrate concepts and practices of this new medicine into their workplace. Wellness coordinator may be consulted in designing skills training for each specific organization.

The presenters of the Self-Regulation Skills are all trained by James S. Gordon, MD, founder and director for the Center for Mind-Body Medicine. His latest book, Manifesto for a New Medicine: Your Guide to Healing Partnerships and the Wise Use of Alternative Therapies, was published in May 1996.

Graduates of the 12-week course can expect to have gained knowledge about the various effective alternative therapies, with the ability to make wise choices in their self-care. An extensive bibliography is available, supporting the research behind the efficacy of these therapies.

Ancient healing and modern science are recognized and combined to fit the uniqueness of each individual, preparing each of us to leave the group with health-promoting, inexpensive tools to use throughout the rest of our lives.

This work may be covered by your insurance as group counseling. Please contact your company for requirements for coverage.
